The most important observing instrument of the Observatory is the astrograph with an aperture of 30 cm and a focal length of 200 cm. With this four-lens binocular system, wide-area sky images of 24 x 24 cm can be taken. This astrograph, which also has component binoculars used in solar observations, was ordered to the German Carl-Zeiss Jena company on 11 December 1935, brought to Istanbul in disassembled form (in 12 pieces) by ship via Trieste, Italy on 25 September 1936, and installed in its current dome in autumn 1936.
